Explaining Our Response

Beyond Borders is working around the clock to coordinate strategic interventions and facilitate collaboration between local organizations and international aid agencies. We are focused on the population of Port-au-Prince and the isolated community of Jacmel. Constant communication allows us to prioritize and streamline relief efforts. There are two phases to our effort.

Phase I: Our priority is to coordinate a rapid response in collaboration with other international NGOs and Haitian organizations. During this phase, funds will be used to get resources to those in need, such as transport for medical teams, purchase of critical supplies – medicine, food, satellite phones, mobile internet bases, excavation and clean-up tools, diesel fuel, etc.

Phase II: As the initial crisis passes, we will use funds to support the recovery effort. We will assist our partners who have lost school buildings, homes, and offices. We will support education, teacher training, sustainable agriculture, and investments in rural livelihoods. We will continue our unique focus on child protection and welfare especially for the most vulnerable children—those who have lost parents and family or become separated from them. This earthquake has set this effort back, but our commitment is not shaken. For almost two decades we have been empowering Haitians to improve the lives of Haitians. We will continue investing in the capacity of Haitians to build a better future.
