Adult Education

About half of Haiti’s adults are illiterate and live in extreme poverty, struggling to survive on less than a dollar a day. Beyond Borders has pioneered an adult education program that works to break the chains of illiteracy and poverty by first teaching participants to read and then introducing them to a specialized, life-changing curriculum. Last fiscal year 985 people participated in our adult education programming.

First-year students gather outside the Devwe pou Kris la adult literacy center on Lagonav Island. Participants learn to read and write in year one and then begin a curriculum that includes practical topics like sustainable agriculture, parenting and child development, and reproductive health and family planning.
