The Model Community Initiative
As part of our core strategy to end child slavery in Haiti, Beyond Borders continues to work with its partners to create child-friendly model communities where the basic physical and psychological needs of children are met, where no child is kept or sent into servitude, and all children have access to a quality education.
This past year we completed social mapping and baseline household surveys of more than 1,300 families in the three initial communities. This allows us to identify at-risk children and families and document progress.
Each community is experimenting with sustainable strategies that will be tested for their effectiveness and replicated in other rural communities. Plans are underway to expand to at least four additional communities.
