Education is a Conversation
ESK (Edikasyon se yon Konvesasyon-Education is a Conversation)
ESK is a collective learning method based mostly in reflection and exchange, encouraging participant dialogue. The method nurtures tolerance and respect for diverse opinions while clearly creating an ambiance for challenging problematic social norms.

The illustrated story book used for the facilitation of ESK presents 15 real-life stories created from common themes identified among hundreds of ethnographic interviews held with Haitians prior to its development. Illustrations allow non-literate participants to contribute equally. Discussion questions and suggestions for role play bring the stories to life, asking participants to think and share about child rights issues in a very practical way, while practicing child advocacy skills. Also included in the module are pertinent child rights content material. Monitors facilitate discussion among participants to guide them in bringing the themes addressed in the stories to a place of practical actions.
Three ESK modules Beyond Borders use in Haiti are Sexual & Reproductive Health, Environment & Agriculture, and Children's Rights.
